It seems probable that, long ago, thousands of years ago, the nemesis of the hith was less the carnivorous tharlarion with which it thought to dispute its world, but an unexpected adversary, smaller and weaker, more vulnerable and fragile, but less forgiving and tolerant, more determined and tenacious, a miniscule foe, one scarcely noticed, but a foe that could plan and would not forget, an unanticipated usurper determined to set itself on nature's throne, the human.
