Two other anomalous events had occurred, or were said to have occurred. One claimed to have seen canal urts swimming in the vicinity of some shadowy, muchly submerged visitant to the Canal of Veminiums, presumably a shark or long tharlarion. This was unusual because urts commonly avoid sharks and tharlarion, often fleeing from their presence. In this case, they seemed to be clustering about the shape, indeed, some said, as though accompanying it, almost as though investigating it, almost as though curious. The second incident, which may have an altogether different explanation, had to do with an urt girl. She had been in the water on her rope, her hunter at hand, when she screamed in pain and the water about her swirled with blood.
