Her mirth had seemed anomalous; certainly it suggested that she might not be the Lady Julia Leta; then, a bit thereafter, too readily in my view, she had confessed to having been the Lady Julia Leta, admitted her guilt, sought my understanding, professed contrition, and begged my silence.
